Suraj Singh Memorial College Ranchi
Suraj Singh Memorial College is a graduate-level college in Kanke Road. It is a constituent college of Ranchi University in Ranchi, Jharkhand, India. With the industrialization of Ranchi City, the demand for quality education, especially in the field of higher education, increased in the mid sixties. There were a few colleges and large number of economically backward young boys and girls willing to undertake higher education. In this backdrop, a few people thought of opening a college. They approached a philanthropist of Ranchi city for their help and guidance. In 1972, Suraj Singh Memorial College (SSM College) came into existence. The then Chief Minister of Bihar, Kedar Nath Pandey inaugurated the college and it started functioning in the space provided by a school situated in Bariatu Road, Ranchi. The college which was affiliated to Ranchi University, Ranchi was made a constituent unit in the year 1978. The catchment area of this college is the semi–urban fringes of Ranchi City. It also attracts students from other districts of Jharkhand and other states of the country. The college is imparting education up to degree level in all the three faculties, viz., Arts, science and Commerce. The college also offers Honours level courses in many subjects of Arts Commerce and Science.

The Jharkhand State Co-operative Lac Marketing & Procurement Federation Ltd. (in short “JASCOLAMPF”) is the only apex commodity co-operative body in India specifically meant for Lac promotion established in the year 1963 by the State Government for the overall development of lac industry in the tribal dominated region. It is a registered body under the Jharkhand State Cooperative Societies Act, 1935. Being a Co-operative federation it has a commitment towards the social responsibility, hence it weighs more on services than profit The idea of co-operative enterprise in lac was mooted in 1962 when sticklac price had crashed to its lowest bottom for many decades. There was the apprehension that lac would go out of cultivation entailing permanent damage to this source of earning portance to tribal economy and also to the employment potential of the tribal population. In order to improve the economic condition and to help the tribal population engaged in the growing of lac from the exploitation, the State-trading Corporation of India was brought in to buy Seedlac at fair price. This fair price being proportionate to the minimum export price fixed by Govt. of India was much above the prevailing market price during the year 1962. Therefore, it was considered expedient to organize cooperative lac marketing federation for the benefit of lac growers. JASCOLAMPF is one of the largest channelizing agency of Lac related products in Jharkhand.

Ranchi University
Ranchi University is a university in Jharkhand state of India. It was established on 12 July 1960 as a teaching-cum-affiliating university, and its first vice chancellor was Vishnudeo Narayan Singh. It is headquartered in Ranchi, the capital city of Jharkhand. The university has a total student intake of around 90,000 students from its affiliated colleges. It has a central library with approximately 150,000 books for the academic needs of the students. There are a total of two male hostels and four female hostels in the university campus situated at Kutchery Road, Morabadi in Ranchi. The university is financially dependent on UGC funds (Rs. 38 crores annually) in addition to the fees paid by the students.[1] At present, the University spans five districts of Jharkhand, namely, Ranchi, Gumla, Khunti, Simdega and Lohardaga. Right since its inception Ranchi University has been alive to the ever increasing demands of higher education.although there remains a lot of scope for improving the standards of education at the university. Keeping apace with changing times, the University today offers vocational courses. For the less privileged students coming from the scheduled tribes or scheduled castes, special coaching classes are engaged to prepare them for competitive examinations.
